# Setting Up SMTP Email Settings in ClearCRM

Configure Email. Set up your email address so ClearCRM can send notifications, campaigns, and more on your behalf.

## Where to Find It

Go to the left-hand navigation and click:
**Setup → Settings → Email tab**

This is where you’ll enter your SMTP credentials — the technical info ClearCRM needs to send emails from your own address.

## ⚠️ Special Note for Gmail Users

If you're using a **Gmail** address, **do not enter your regular password**. Google no longer supports basic authentication for external apps like ClearCRM.

Instead, you’ll need to generate a secure **App Password**. Here’s how:

1. Make sure **2-Step Verification** is enabled on your Google account.

2. Go to this link: https://myaccount.google.com/apppasswords

3. In the _App Name_ field, type something like “ClearCRM” to distinguish easier.

4. Then click on **Create**.

5. Google will give you a **16-digit App Password**.

6. Copy that password and paste it into the **SMTP Password** field in ClearCRM.

You only need to do this once, and it helps keep your Gmail account secure.

## ⚠️ Special Note for Office 365 Users

You need to enable 3rd party apps to authenticate for your office 365 email account. this is how.

1. Log in to the **Microsoft 365 Admin Center** → [https://admin.microsoft.com](https://admin.microsoft.com)

2. Go to **Users → Active users** → **select the user**/mailbox that will send the emails

3. Click **Mail tab → Manage email apps**

4. Check the box **Authenticated SMTP** (a.k.a. “SMTP AUTH client submission”) → Click **Save changes**

This enables SMTP AUTH for that specific mailbox (it’s disabled by default on new tenants for security).

## Save and Test

Once all the fields are filled out, scroll down and click **Save Changes**.

You can also try sending a test email to make sure everything’s working. If you see a success message at the top right, you’re good to go!
